DIY Wind Turbine Project: Homepage

earth 4 energy

Welcome to the DIY Wind Turbine Project website. My name is Tony, and I created DIY Wind Turbine Project .COM in order to help people who want to learn how to build a wind turbine.

I first became interested in renewable energy due to environmental concerns, however I am also something of a DIY enthusiast and was looking for an interesting new DIY project to complete in my spare time.

A few years ago I spent some time traveling around Central America, East Africa, and South East Asia. One of my favorite experiences of the whole trip was SCUBA diving on coral reefs. I became fascinated with life on the reef, and I did quite a lot of research in order to find out more about the ecosystem and the organisms that inhabit it. What I found was deeply disturbing. Coral reefs worldwide are being decimated by climate change. Increasing sea surface temperatures are causing the corals to die due to environmental stress, and as the corals are the basis of the coral reef ecosystem and its food webs, this is causing huge destruction to the whole reef.

This realization kept me awake at night for months as I worried about what local people living next to reefs (who are completely dependent upon the fish they provide) would eat when the reefs died. I was also deeply depressed about the state of the world that my generation would pass on to my children. I decided to take action and do whatever I could.

Upon returning from my travels I made a concerted effort to reduce my carbon footprint. Around this time I was also looking for a new DIY project. At this point I became interested in the idea of building and installing a renewable energy system. I found the idea of harnessing green energy very appealing, and was also excited about the energy bill savings and tax credits that were on offer. The area where I live receives a decent amount of both sunshine and wind, so I decided to build may own solar power system and wind turbine.

The ready built wind turbines on the market were very expensive and not remotely economically viable for me at all for me. I was also really looking forward to installing a system myself as well as learning all about building renewable energy systems. I did some research in the library and on the internet and realized that the components needed to build a wind turbine cost under $300. I was now totally committed to trying to make my own DIY wind turbine and solar panels.

I started by attempting to build my own solar energy system, although my first attempt was a bit of a failure and my second attempt wasn’t great either. The problem was that I had been using information from all over the place and was struggling to put it all together. I really enjoyed the DIY wind turbine project however, and even though I was a bit disappointed with my renewable energy system I decided not to give up.

A few months later while doing some more research, I came across a fantastic step by step guide to building solar panels and wind turbines. As soon as I saw the web site I knew that the guide was exactly what I needed to go forward with my project. I read the guide over the next couple of weeks and learned a huge amount. I really wished that I had found this information sooner. Since then I have also discovered a couple of other great guides to DIY renewable energy systems. To help you avoid wasting time and money like I did, I have listed my favorite step by step guides in the Recommended Products section.

After going through these excellent step by step guides I completely overhauled my solar energy system and then began work on a small wind turbine to generate even more power. While I could have completed my DIY wind turbine project for about $100, I decided to spend a bit more and get some better blades, battery, and components for a good generator. Building the wind turbine was actually really easy and great fun.

I feel great that I am doing my bit for the environment by reducing my personal use of fossil fuels. It really is a great feeling to be harnessing completely green, completely free energy, and as a result I have become passionate about encouraging other people to make their own DIY wind turbine and solar energy systems. I have always enjoyed doing a spot of DIY around the house, but building my own renewable energy system was something else. My goal is to go completely off grid for a few months of the year in 2012, and even start selling some electricity back to my energy company. In order to do this I plan to build a new, larger wind turbine, as well as add a couple more solar panels on my roof.

I hope I have inspired you to start your own DIY wind turbine project. If you are interested in learning how to build a wind turbine, I recommend that you begin by buying one of the best step-by-step guides that I have listed in the Recommended Products section. These guides are not expensive, and will hold your hand through the whole process, saving you loads of time and money trying to learn everything by trial and error.

I recommend that you take some time to browse the free information on this web site to learn more about wind energy and building your own DIY wind turbine.
